Beal Dies of Injuries William L. Beal, 83 years old, a civil war veteran, was struck by an automobile on Mount Pleasant Road near Poplar Grove on Wednesday, April 26. He suffered a fractured skull and died of his injuries Saturday night at 8:05pm at the Cottage State Hospital. The body was prepared for burial by Funeral Director C. C. Mitchell. Mr. Beal a native of Fayette County he enlisted when the Civil War broke out at Mount Pleasant on August 27, 1862 as a private in Company B, 142nd PA Infantry Army of the Potomac. He took part in 24 battles including Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Weldon Railroad, Five Forks, and Appomattox Courthouse. He once was a prisoner but escaped and was at the surrender of General Lee. He was honorably discharged August 25, 1865. A member of the Church of God and the William E. Kurtz Post No. 104 G. A. R. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs.Roy Sparks of Poplar Grove with whom he made his home and one son, Lloyd of Indian Head; a sister, Mrs. Sara Martin of Connellsville; a brother John Beal of Mount Pleasant. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him. Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm at the Poplar Grove home with Rev. J. H. Lambertson of the Methodist Protestant Church presiding. William F. Kurtz post will conduct military services. The Post will meet at the Odd Fellows Hall at 7:00 this evening to attend the body. Tuesday morning the body will be taken to Indian Head where services will be held at 10:00 am at Mount Nebo Cemetery. Additional Comments: William Lichty Beal was born 28 Sep 1838 the son of Daniel Nicholas Beal and Mary Lichty. He married Sarah H. Miller on 23 Nov 1865. They had six children: Mary L., Nancy Francina, Lloyd M.(md. Sadie E. Griffith), Iva Nora (md.Samuel Clyde Brooks), Laura Belle, and Luzetta Viola (md. LeRoy Sparks).
