Bowman, Smithfield, Dies Elias Oliver Bowman, aged 75 years, seven months and 29 days, a prominent and most highly respected resident of Smithfield as well as one of it's oldest, died in his home there at 12:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, December 31, 1934, following a brief illness. Mr. Bowman was born April 22, 1859. On December 18, 1883 he was married to Miss Annie Baer by Rev. Mr. Roseborough. Mrs. Bowman Preceded him in death May 22, 1932, as did two children, Guy and Mildred Bowman. Having spent the greater portion of his useful life in Smithfield, Mr. Bowman for many years was engaged as a blacksmith later establishing a hardware business and becoming one of the borough's outstanding business leaders. He was a member of the Smithfield Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years serving many years as a a member of the board of directors of the Smithfield State Bank. Surviving is one son, Paul Bowman, of Smithfield; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be solemnized Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the family residence followed at 2 o'clock with additional rites in the Smithfield Presbyterian Church. Rev. C. D. A.
