Eicher died of paralysis at 12:30 a.m. Nov. 22,1900, aged nearly 68 years. Mr. Eicher was one of Scottdale's best citizens. he was born Dec. 5, 1832, in Springfield township, Fayette county, being a son of Joseph and Rose Ann (Kern) Eicher. He taught school, then learned the carpenter trade in Somerset county with his father-in-law , John Hamilton. In 1862 he moved to his father's farm and in 1862 he entered the Army in the 6th PA Artillery. In 1872 they moved to Scottdale where they have since resided. He was commissioned justice of the peace be Gov. Hoyt in 1879, and re commissioned by Govs. Pattison, Beaver,and Hastings, and had he lived a few more months longer he would have served for 23 years. Mr. Eicher was elected burgess of Scottdale on the Republican ticket in 1882 and was re-elected four successive times. He was a member of Scottdale Lodge No. 885, I.O.O.F,; Fountain Lodge 443, K.of P.,; Greensburg Council No. 44, Royal Arcanum; Sheridan Council No. 362, O.U.A.M., and Col. Ellsworth Post No. 209, G.A.R. Squire Eicher was also a devoted member and deacon of the Baptist Church. To his honesty, uprightness, and wise dispensation of justice all men bear tributes. Joseph K. was married in 1851 to Mary Ellen Hamilton of Somerset county, who with their eight children survives him. The sons are Leroy N., Alex H., William W., and Frank E. The daughters are Mrs. Ann E. Sturgis, Mrs. Ellen D. Scott, Mrs. Lillian L. Greiner and Mrs. Maggie B. Hoy. His surviving brothers are Samuel, William, John, Henry, Abram and Issac. Funeral on Saturday at 11 a.m., internment in Scottdale Cemetery.
