They are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of Donna Murray Allen, who compiled these obituaries in September 1998. cherokee@cftnet.com Levi S. Murray September 1845 - January 21, 1907 Connellsville Daily Courier. Levi S. Murray, a Well Known Resident of Springfield Township, Expires Suddenly. Levi S. Murray, a prominent resident and farmer of Springfield Township, dropped dead in the store of George W. Campbell at Normalville yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Mr. Murray had come in from his farm, about a half mile from Normalville. He spoke to several acquaintances as he entered the store, walked half way through it and dropped dead. Mr. Murray did not speak after he was stricken. Everything possible was done for him, but life departed in a few seconds. Mr. Murray was 67 years old. His wife died some time ago. He leaves four children, three sons and one daughter: George L. of Normalville, Elijah and Samuel L. of Moyer and Mrs. Joshua M. Bailey of Moyer. A brother, Josiah S. Murray and two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Hensel and Mrs. Fred S. Miller, the latter of Connellsville, also survive him. Mr. Murray was one of the township’s most prominent citizens. He served in every township office and had accumulated a comfortable fortune from his farm of 140 acres. Last week, he received a check for the coal under it. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. E.E. DeHaven and interment will be in the U.B. Cemetery at Normalville. Mary Agnes Long Murray March 1846 - January 15, 1903 Daily News Standard. Mrs. L.S. Murray Normalville, Jan. 16 – Mrs. Agnes Murray, died Jan. 15, 1903, at her late home of congestion of the heart, aged some 58 years. Deceased is survived by her husband and four children, viz: George and Samuel of Springfield. Elijah L. of Moyer and Mrs. Joshua M. Bailey of Stouffer. She was a consistent member of the United Brethren church. Funeral Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment in United Brethren cemetery. Rev. De Haven officiating. Elijah L. Murray December 26, 1864 - April 27, 1943 Connellsville Daily Courier. Murray Funeral The funeral service for Elijah L. Murray of Dunbar, who died at Connellsville State Hospital Tuesday morning, will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the home in charge of Rev. William S. Hamilton of Dunbar. Burial will be made in the United Brethren Cemetery at Normalville, in charge of Funeral Director Charles C. Mitchell. Mr. Murray was born at Normalville on December 26, 1864. He has been a lifelong resident of Fayette county and for the past eight years had resided on Second Street, Speers Hill, Dunbar. He was employed by the H.C. Frick Coke Company for 45 years preceding his retirement. He was a member of the Normalville United Brethren Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Addie R. Murray of Dunbar, and the following children: Elmer H. Murray of Lemont, John L. Murray of Republic, James W. Murray of the U.S. Navy at Camp Peary, VA, Mrs. Mary A. Renninger of Uniontown, George S. Murray with a Coast Artillery unit at Mancester, Conn., Mrs. Goldie A. Marnell of Dunbar, Norman T. Murray of a Coast Artillery unit at Fort Mason, N.C., and Milton H. Murray of Dunbar. He was a brother of Mrs. Ella Bailey of South Connellsville. There are also 30 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four daughters and three sons. Addie Leona Rose Mills Murray August 22, 1887 – April 4, 1965 Connellsville Daily Courier. Mrs. Addie Murray Mrs. Addie M. Murray, 77, of 19 Speers Hill, Dunbar, died at 2 p.m. Sunday in Connellsville State General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 22, 1887, in Clear Spring, MD, a daughter of the late John and Mary Davis Mills, and had lived in Dunbar for the past 30 years. She was a retired employee of the Renze Tobacco Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dunbar. Surviving are four sons, James W. of Detroit, Mich., George S. of Dunbar, Norman of Florida and Milton of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Renninger of Uniontown and Mrs. Goldie Marnell of Dunbar; two stepsons, Elmer Murray of Pittsburgh and John Murray of Republic; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Astleford of Uniontown, Mrs. Alta Luckey and Mrs. Helen Newcomer and Mrs. Maude Wolford of Connellsville, and Mrs. Charlie (Goldie) Newcomer of Allison; and three brothers, George Mills of Bergholz, Ohio, William Mills of California state and James Mills of Oberlin, Ohio. The body will be at the Brooks funeral home, Connellsville, after 10 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held there at 2 p.m. Thursday, with her pastor, the Rev. Lewis D. Hunter, officiating. Interment will be in Normalville Cemetery. Norman Thomas Murray January 7, 1923 – July 11, 1972 Brandon News (Brandon, FL) Norman T. Murray, Sr. Norman T. Murray, Sr. 49, of Brandon, died on July 11. A native of Lemont Furnace, Penna., he had resided here since 1958. He was employed by the State Road Department as a foreman. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marion Murray; one son, Norman T. Murray, Jr. of Brandon; and two daughters, Mrs. Donna Allen of Tampa and Miss Shelley Murray of Brandon. Others surviving include three brothers, James Murray of Detroit Mich.; George Murray of Dunbar, Penna.; and Milton Murray of Ohio. In addition, he is survived by two sisters. They are Mrs. Mary Renninger of Uniontown, Penna., and Mrs. Goldie Marnell of Dunbar, Penna. Services were conducted July 14 at the Stowers Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon by the Rev. Ross Geiger. Interment followed in Limona Cemetery. Marion Shelley Murray March 14, 1926 – June 6, 1995 The Tampa Tribune Marion S. Murray, 69, of Brandon, died June 6th of natural causes. Mrs. Murray was a retired teacher from the Hillsborough County School System, where she taught in several East Hillsborough County elementary schools for 25 years. She was an honor graduate of the University of South Florida, where, at age 46, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She then went on to earn her Master’s degree, once again graduating with honors. She was a member of Kappa Delta Phi, the honor society for education majors. Mrs. Murray was an excellent teacher, who thoroughly loved her job and who dedicated her life to teaching her students. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman T. Murray; a daughter, Norma Lee Murray; and a grand-daughter, Shannon Allen. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Allen of Tampa, Shelley Cumbie of Seffner, and a son, N.T. Murray, Jr. of Tampa. Grandchildren, David Allen, Jenny Rebecca Allen and Craig Cumbie. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Shelley; sisters Pat and Gloria, all of PA.; brothers, Dr. Dan Shelley of PA and Henry Shelley of MO as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place this evening (Thursday, June 8th) at the Stowers Brandon Chapel, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday; June 9th at the Limona Village Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Limona Cemetery.
