January 08, 1862 At his residence in Indiana, Dec. 4th, 1861, Maj. John Oldshue, aged 72 years. The deceased was raised in Fayette co., Pa., and served with distinction as a Lieutenant in Capt. Lynn's company throughout the war of 1812. After his return from the Army he was elected Major of the Militia. In the fall of 1816 he moved from here to Richland county, Ohio, where he opened and improved a fine farm, on which he laid out the town of Ashland. From there he moved to Indiana, where he was very successful in business affairs and accumulated considerable wealth. Two of his sons went through the Mexican war and returned home, one as a Captain the other as a Lieutenant.
