Ball Dies As Result of War Exposure William Louis Ball, a veteran of the World War, died this morning from a an illness which resulted from exposure during his service. Death occurred at 9 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Harriet V. Franks, 408 Jefferson street, an aunt, with whom he made his home for many years. He was 30 years old, having been born August 18, 1893. William Ball, or "Bill" as he was called by his friends, was well known in the city. He had been employed at the Laughrey Drug Company as a clerk and his big smile won him lots of friends. He worked here for a time following the close of the war and later was employed in the same capacity at the drug store of Wilhelm Het? at Rochester. His illness became pronounced on October 1 and he went to Mount Alto Sanitarium. Later he went to the Hamburg Santarium and in April came to the home of his aunt. He was confined to his bed for many weeks but recently was able to spend a few hours outside. "Bill" enlisted with the 20th Engineers at the beginning of the war and served with that organization through the war. While on the seas one of the ships carrying the engineers was sunk and it was reported that he was included among the number. It was later learned however, that he had just missed that boat and taken the next. It was while with the engineers that he suffered the exposure which ultimately brought on his death. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ball, of Uniontown. He had no brothers or sisters. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
