The decline of well advanced years was hastened by gastritis, and his last illness of several weeks was known several days before its termination to be fatal. Deceased was born in New Jersey, on April 7th, 1817. When a boy he came here and was engaged for a number of years in the manufacture of saddles and harness. He later was made foreman of the upholstering department of the Baltimore & Ohio shops here. He then occupied ten years of his life as Justice of the Peace. In 1849, he was elected Major of the Uniformed Militia, composed of companies from Westmoreland, Greene and Fayette counties. From 1859 to 1862 he was doorkeeper in the House of Congress. In 1862, 1863 and 1875 he was elected and served the three terms of office as Burgess of Connellsville. He was always a Democrat, but supported James G. Blaine, with whom he was personally acquainted, for the Presidency in 1884. Among his intimate friends were Hon. William Montgomery of Washington count, member of Congress; Westley Frost, Ex-Sheriff of Fayette county; Col. T. B. Searight and Capt. T. M. Fee. Major Pritchard married Miss Harriet Freeman, daughter of Samuel Freeman, in 1840. He was the father of ten children, five of whom, with their mother, are living. They are Mrs. Louise Curles, living in Lawrence, Mo; Mrs. James Stouffer, George F. Pritchard and Miss Clara Pritchard, who reside here, and John Leroy Pritchard, whose home is in Topeka, Kas. The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The pall bearers were Col. T. B. Searight, Capt. T. M. Fee, Bernard Welker, Edmund Dunn, John Kurtz, Lawrence Donegan, Capt. J. M.
