This is the will of Richard Hopwood (1675-1725) of Westmoreland Co. VA. He was the father of Moses Hopwood (1702-1760) of Kings Co. & Richmond City VA and grandfather of John Hopwood (1745-1802) of Woodstock (Hopwood), Fayette Co. PA Richard Hopwood (1675 - 1725) Last Will & Testament Written Jan 15, 1725 Probated Feb 26, 1725 In the name of God, Amen. I, Richard Hopwood, being very sick of body but perfectly whole and sound in soul and mind do desire according to God's appointment to put my house in order Imp I divide my hundred acres of land joining upon the land of Robert Bennett, first I give and bequeath unto my wife Mary the south side from the first great ditch during her life time and afterwards to fall to my son Moses Hopwood. I likewise desire that my son Moses may have the liberty of tending the old orchard from the row of cherry trees about the tobacco house and that the fruits of the orchard may be equally divided between my wife Mary and my son Moses and as for the rest of my estate, cattle, horses, sheep, hogs and all other my movable estate of goods to be equally divided between my wife Mary and my son Moses except my corn and provision crop of tobacco that is now the County dues to be paid out of it and my wife Mary to have the rest for her own uses. I likewise desire that my wife Mary have liberty of half the hatters tools during her lifetime and afterwards to fall to my son Moses and if my son Moses dies without issue lawfully begotten the land to fall to James Hamilton. I leave my loving wife Mary Hopwood and Moses Hopwood full lawful Ex. I leave my boat to be sold at an outcry, I give to my son in law Jn Borrer (Boyer) the loom and weavers tools and unto Henry Borrer (Boyer) I give a gun. I likewise desire my Ex. to pay my debts out of my estate in witness hereof.
