The subject of this sketch died at his home near Marienville, where he had lived for over half a century, on Thursday, February 5, 1903 of old age. He was one of the original settlers of Jenks Township, the date of his coming March 7, 1836, three years after Cyrus Blood settled in Marienville in 1833. This respected and venerable settler was aged 95 years, 1 month and 10 days, having been born at Hartford, Trumbull county, Ohio, December 25, 1807 (See note at bottom of obit), but lived the greater part of his useful life on his farm in this county, and died respected by all who knew him. He always took a great interest in county affairs and filled many offices of trust in his township, being a man of sterling integrity and probity. For years he was constable and collector of Jenks Township and his familiar face was seen in our courts up to about the year 1890, when the infirmities of age prevented him from coming to the county seat. He is survived by his wife and family of six children, three sons and three daughters, the best known of whom is H. S. Brockway, a former Superintendent of schools of Forest County. The burial took place in the Rose cemetery on Saturday afternoon. Thus one by one the old pioneers pass away. In the death of Aaron Brockway at his home in Jenks Township, on Thursday, Feb. 5, 1903, Forest county loses its oldest citizen. Mr. Brockway was born at Hartford, Trumbull County, Ohio, December 25, 1807, having thus passed his 95th year on last Christmas day. He come to Jenks twp. Mar 7, 1836, where he set to work to clear up a farm, which place he occupied until the day of his death. July 4, 1847 he was united in marriage with Miss Keziah Buffum, who, with six children, survives. The children are H.S. and M. Welker (See note at bottom of obit) of Marienville, Alonzo of Loleta, Mrs. Louisa Heath and Mary F. Bell of Jenks twp., and Mrs. Clara A. Wray of Kane. Mr. Brockway possessed a wonderful constitution and kept his health until recently. For many years he held the office of constable in his township, and long after he had passed his 80th year he would walk to Tionesta, a distance of 20 miles, without apparent fatigue. He was one of the hardy pioneers of Jenks twp., being a contemporary of the lamented Cyrus Blood and Col. John D. Hunt in the settlement and development of what was then a vast wilderness. He lived to see that wilderness blossom as the rose, and its inhabitants “spread and flourish like the green bay tree.” Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased on Saturday and his remains were laid to rest in the Rose cemetery, not far from the place where the genial, good-natured man spent most of his long life. Tombstone and my research puts Aaron's birth year 1808, which would make Aaron 95 as stated in this obituary. Should be N. Welker, This is a reference to Newton Welker Brockway
