Brockway died at his home in Jenks township, Forest county, Wednesday, Dec 27th 1911, after an illness of but a few days, although for some years past he had not been in robust health. The subject of this sketch was born about 64 years ago at the old Brockway homestead, two mile west of Marienville, where his last days were spent, his parents being Aaron and Keziah (buffum) Brockway, deceased. When quite young a serious illness left him a cripple, and he fitted himself for teaching, a profession he followed until elected county superintendent of schools, which office he held for two terms. He was afterward engaged in the hotel business in Tionesta for a number of years, following which he removed to Spartansburg, Crawford county, where he conducted a hotel. He again removed to Jenks township, locating in Marienville and for several years held the office of justice of the peace. In politics he was always an ardent Republican, and as chairman of that party conducted several successful campaigns in this county. Mr. Brockway was a man of generous impulses, kind-hearted and loyal to his friends, and will be much missed in the community in which the greater portion of his life was spent. Surviving him is his wife, who was Miss Mahala Daughtery, and these children: Arthur of Pittsburg, Earl and Mrs. Frances, wife of Ralph Wilkins, of Warren Pa. Two sisters, Mrs. John Heath of Jenks township, and one living in Pittsburg, and one brother, Welker Brockway of Eagle Rock, Pa., also survive him. Funeral services in his memory were held at his late home on Friday, Rev. H.E. Phipps of Marienville officiating, and interment was in Rose Cemetery.
