Donehoo _______________________________________________ Page 148 JACOB GEARHART, a prominent citizen of Shady Grove, PA. b. in Washington County, Maryland, Nov. 24, 1848. Son of Jacob and Frances (Eshelman) Gearhart, both natives of PA. Jacob Sr. d in 1850 and Frances in 1851. Jacob Gearhart farmed until he retired in 1891 to become the V.P. of the local bank. He was a republican. In 1872 he m. Catherine, dau. of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Barr, the former a native of Lancaster, while the latter a native of Maryland. Jacob and Catherine Gearhart are the parents of six children. They are: Anna, Susan, Nora, Samuel, Ira, and Jacob. Jacob died in infancy.
