LINDSAY FAMILY

The Lindsays are an old Franklin county family.  John Lindsay d. 1799, came to 
Guilford Twp. before the organization of Cumberland County.  In 1746 he was tax 
collector for Antrim Twp., Lancaster county.  From John Lindsay the pioneer the 
line of descent is:
Fulton Lindsay m. Jane Fulton and had several children among them James Lindsay 
b. Aug 1743 d. Oct 12 1804 m.
Martha b. 1751 d. Sept 7, 1838  several children among them.
John Lindsay b Guilford Twp. 1770 d. Sept 6, 1825 m.
Frances W. Crawford b. 1780 d. April 11, 1868 (dau of Edward Crawford) Their 
children: James d. in Missouri; John Vance b. March 15, 1814--d. June 4, 1853  
m. Catherine Elizabeth Wolff b. Sept 18, 1820, d. Feb. 13 1904 ; Edward Crawford 
b. 1823 d. Feb 22, 1844; Martha who m. James Thompson;  Elizabeth m. Samule 
Bigham; Sarah m. J. Smith Grier; Jane m. Frederick Byers; Mary m. John D. Grier; 
and Rebecca m. William G. Reed.

John Vance Lindsay 2nd child of John and Frances Crawford Lindsay had the
following children:

1.  John Barnard b. Jan. 24 1843

2.  Thomas Crawford b. Jan 22, 1845 m. dec 18 1873 Maria Ward Verner dau of 
James D. and Maria  N. Verner. They had issue: Frank Verner b. May 9, 1875;
Joseph Horne b. Jan 12 1878; and John Arthur b. April 16, 1887.

3.  William Wolff, b. Feb 11, 1847 d. Nov 6, 1898

4.  Mary Elizabeth b. Dec. 31, 1848 d. Nov 26, 1894 m. James G. Gordon d. Feb 3, 
1890. no children.

5. Frank b. Jan 28, 1851 lived in Chambersburg, PA.
