D. Guy Phillip Asper, son of John C. and Sarah Elizabeth Asper was born in York Springs, Adams County, Pennsylvania, April 17, 1880. At the age of two the family removed to Chambersburg, Pa. He attended the Public Schools of Chambersburg, graduating from the High School, Class 1899. Graduated from School of Medicine, University of Maryland, Class 1903. Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania 1903 and began practice September of that year. September, 1907, associated with Dr. Fairfax G. Wright, which association continued until July 1921. Dr. Asper was: For many years surgeon to the Good Will Fire Company. Member of the Staff of the Chambersburg Hospital to 1921. President of the Medical Society of Franklin County, 1917. Several years member of the Chambersburg Board of Health. Enlisted in Medical Corps, United States Army as First Lieutenant, active duty July 5, 1918, until July 15, 1919. His entire service was at U. S. A. General Hospital No. 6, Ft. McPherson, Ga., where he was in charge of the contagious service. On discharge from the army he returned to Chambersburg and resumed practice, which he continued until July, 1921, when he entered the United States Public Health Service as Past Assistant Surgeon (Captain). He has been stationed at Fox Hills, Staten Island, N. Y., U. S. Marine Hospital, Algiers, (New Orleans) La., U. S. Veterans Hospital No. 96, Tupper Lake, N. Y., U. S. Veterans Hospital, No. 89, Rutland Heights, Mass., and at U. S. Veterans Hospital, No. 98 at Castle Point-on-Hudson, N. Y. In February, 1923, he was promoted to Surgeon (Major) U. S. P. H. S. The following year he entered the service of the Veterans Bureau and is now a Medical Officer Expert in that department. For the past six years he has specialized in diseases of the chest, and is now in charge of the Chest Surgery at his hospital. February 4, 1904, married Leona May McElwain, of Chambersburg. There are three children: Margaret Leona, John McElwain and Guy Phillips, Jr.
