D. 1847(?)- 1913 A. S. Bonebrake was born in Washington Township, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Stoner) Bonebrake. He was the youngest of a family of eight children, four of whom were physicians, viz. Melchor, Daniel W., Henry X., and Andrew S. Andrew S. Bonebrake ran away from home and enlisted in the army at the age of sixteen years. He was not always observant of discipline, but was a fearless soldier and served out his enlistment, probably three years. After the Civil War closed he studied medicine and was graduated M. D. in 1869 or 1870. He began the practice of medicine at Shady Grove. Later he was in the drug business in Waynesboro and then for a time was a partner with Dr. Ripple in the practice of medicine. He then removed to Greencastle, and after a few years retired from the practice of medicine and became a most successful machinery salesman and accumulated considerable wealth in this business.
