BONEBRAKE, M.D. 1843 – 1914 Dr. Bonebrake was born in 1843 in Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa., a son of Daniel and Margaret (Stoner) Bonebrake. He was the sixth son in a family of eight children, four of whom became physicians, viz: Melchor, Daniel W., Andrew S. and Henry X. Dr. Bonebrake was educated at Mercersburg College and began reading medicine with Dr. John J. Oellig in Waynesboro, and completed his studies with Dr. James Brotherton, Jr., in the same town. He was graduated M. D., 1865, from the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City. He located in practice for a time at Leitersburg, Md., and then removed to Funkstown, now Mont Alto, in 1869. He accepted the position of Superintendent of the Mont Alto Iron Works, filling this position in connection with the practice of medicine until 1889, when he removed to Chambersburg and was in practice here until the time of his death in 1914. Dr. Bonebrake was Coroner of the County 1890-93, a member of the Hospital Staff from its organization and an active member of the Medical Society and its President 1897. He was physician to the County Home for a number of years and State Medical Inspector for Franklin County for some years. He was a Republican in politics and a member of the Reformed Church. He married, in 1862, Miss Agnes Fouke of Maryland.
