BOTELER, M. D. 1839-1898 George W. Boteler was born in 1839 in Brownsville, Washington County, Md., and died in 1898 in York, Pennsylvania. He read medicine with Dr. Jos. Cluggett, Baltimore, and was graduated M. D. in 1865, University of Maryland. He began the practice of medicine in his native county. About 1869 he removed to Myersville, Frederick County, Maryland, and in 1876 he located in Waynesboro, where he followed his profession until 1897 when he removed to York, Pennsylvania, and died there about one year later. Dr. Boteler served in the Confederate Army under General Lee. For some years he specialized in the treatment of cancer by the use of escharotics and did considerable work in this line. He was admitted to the Medical Society in 1886 and was a member for several years. Dr. Boteler was twice married, first to Miss Carter of Myersdale and second to Miss Emma Rohrer of Waynesboro.
