Stephen O. Brown was born 1782, died 1860. His father was Allen Brown, born 1729 at Cookstown, County Tyrone, Ireland, settled in Lower Path Valley in 1755 and died there in 1808. Dr. Brown located in Chambersburg in 1871. He bought from J. A. Eyster the residence in Philadelphia Avenue lately owned by Thomas M. Nelson and established here a Water Cure Sanitorium. He met with little success and remained only a short time. In 1875 Dr. Brown sold the property to Hon. W. S. Stenger. Dr. Brown later lived retired in Greencastle and died in that town.
