RICHARD BROWNSON Dr. Brownson was a nephew of Dr. Robert Brownson, who was a Deputy Surveyor of Hospitals for the Southern Army, 1781 to 1783, and later became Governor of Georgia. Dr. Richard Brownson came to Peters Township, this county, before the Revolutionary War and practiced medicine here until his death in 1790. He was a surgeon in the war July, 1777, to May, 1778, with the Sixth Battalion of Cumberland County Associators, commanded by Colonel Samuel Culbertson. Dr. Brownson's wife was Mary McDowell, born 1743, died 1833.
