JOHN BURKHOLDER 1812-1877 Dr. Burkholder was born January 15, 1812, in Chambersburg, Pa., and was a son of Ulrich and Catherine (Fahrney) Burkholder. The latter was the eldest daughter of Dr. Peter Fahrney and was born in Chambersburg in 1792 and died 1832. Ulrich Burkholder, the father, was born in Lancaster County, Pa., in 1786, and was a grandson of Ulrich Burkholder, the immigrant, who was born in Switzerland and settled about 1732 in Lancaster County, Pa. Dr. Burkholder, at the age of twelve years, went to live with his uncle, Dr. Jacob Fahrney, at Quincy, Pa., by whom he was educated and initiated into the mysteries of the Fahrney Pharmacopoeia. He succeeded to his uncle's extensive practice and became one of the most active and well known physicians in the southern part of the county. Dr. Burkholder died February 17, 1877, at his home near Quincy. In 1840 he married Miss Susan Yockey of Quincy Township.
