CHRITZMAN, M. D. 1837-1909 Henry G. Chritzman was born in 1837 in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of Henry and Margaret (Zeigler) Chritzman. He received an academic education and studied the languages under a private tutor and then began the study of medicine with Dr. Wm. Grubb in Greencastle, Pa., and after the usual course was graduated M. D. in 1859 by the Pennsylvania Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Chritzman located at once at Keedysville, Md., where he was in practice until the opening of the Civil War in 1861. Early in the war he was appointed Contract Surgeon, later he was commissioned Assistant Surgeon and in October, 1864, he was commissioned Surgeon with the rank of Major, and so continued until the close of the war. In 1865 Dr. Chritzman located at Welsh Run and practiced medicine in this vicinity continuously until the time of his death in 1909. He was a charter member of the Medical Society in 1869 and was President in 1880. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1885 and in 1887. Dr. Chritzman married in 1863, Emma Newcomer of Baltimore, Md., born 1837, died 1925.
