CUMMINGS Dr. Cummings was a practicing physician in Fayetteville from 1830 to 1834. He probably was here prior to 1830, but how long is not known. Dr. Cummings was born in Letterkenny Township, a son of John Cummings who was a member and officer of the old congregation at Rocky Spring and is buried in the cemetery at that church. In 1834 Dr. Cummings sold his practice to a student, Dr. Daniel S. McGowan, and entered the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. From 1835 to 1845 he was pastor of the Dickinson Presbyterian Church in Cumberland County. He then lived in Waynesboro for several years, preaching and practicing medicine, it is said, while in this town. Dr. Cummings died at Brookville, Penna., about 1869. The greater part of his active life was spent in the ministry.
