ALEXANDER TRACY DEAN 1788 – 1834 Dr. Dean located in Chambersburg in 1815 and practiced medicine here until 1828, when he removed to Harrisburg, Pa., and was in practice there until 1834 when he died. Dr. Dean was a volunteer in a Mercersburg Company during the War of 1812-14, and for a brief period practiced medicine in Mercersburg before locating in Chambersburg. He was a native of Huntingdon County where he spent the early years of his life. In 1816 Dr. Dean entered into partnership with Dr. Thomas Watkins in Chambersburg. This was not long continued. In 1824 Dr. Dean and Dr. N. B. Lane became partners and so continued until 1826. Dr. Dean was the first Corresponding Secretary of the Medical Society in 1825 and was physician to the Almshouse 1821 to 1823. His wife was Mary Smith, born 1792, died 1827.
