He was educated at Johnville Academy and then studied medicine, graduating M. D. 1877 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Baltimore, Md. He at once located at Johnville, Md., and practiced medicine there until 1883, when he removed to Chambersburg, Pa., and was active in the work in this town until the time of his death in 1914. Dr. Devilbiss was admitted to the Medical Society in 1887 and was Secretary of the Society 1893 to 1899 and its President in 1900. He was a member of Staff of Chambersburg Hospital from its organization to the time of his death. He was a Prohibitionist in politics and a member of Central Presbyterian Church, serving on its official board for many years. He married Miss Florence M. Foltz, of Bedford County, Pa.
