DANIEL ECKERMAN 1820-1893 Dr. Eckerman was a non-graduate physician who practiced medicine at Middle Spring, Cumberland County and later for a number of years at Salem Church in Greene Township, where he died in 1893. His father, Daniel Eckerman, lived in Letterkenny Township and for many years was one of the old time school masters, who "kept school and boarded around" before the days of free public schools. Dr. Eckerman was also a teacher and taught for a number of years in the rural schools of Letterkenny Township. He was for many years a minister in the German Baptist Church (Old Order of Dunkards) and at the time of his death had been for some years a Bishop in this denomination. Dr. Eckerman performed the duties of preacher and physician for many years and had a considerable following. His wife was Sarah Etter of Greene Township. Their remains lie in the Cemetery at Salem Church.
