D. Dr. F. N. Emmert was born in 1872 at Darkesville, W. Va., the son of Elias and Ella (Burkhart) Emmert. He received his preliminary education in the public schools of Hagerstown, Md., and at the Hagerstown Academy. He then attended Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, Pa. Deciding to study medicine he took one year in medicine at the University of Virginia, Charlotteville, Va., and then entered the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City, and was graduated M. D. in 1897 from this school. Dr. Emmert located in Hagerstown, Md., and was in general practice here 1898 and 1899. He then spent three years 1900 to 1902 in New York City as Assistant Surgeon in St. Bartholomew Hospital for the eye, and also served as Assistant to the Chair of Laryngology in Columbia University. In 1903 he came to Chambersburg and has established an extensive practice in the treatment of diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat. He has been a member of the Medical Society since 1904 and was president in 1912, and is a member of the Hospital Staff. He has been Treasurer of the Medical Society since 1917. Dr. Emmert was Vice-President of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society in 1922. He is Laryngologist to Pennsylvania State Sanatorium for Tuberculosis, South Mountain, Pennsylvania. He married in 1898 Lillian DeF. Ashman of New York City.
