D. 1844-1877 Jacob K. Etter was born in 1844, in "The Pines" east of Scotland, Pa., the son of John and Lydia (Koser) Etter. He was educated in the common schools and attended the Bryan and Stratton Business College, Philadelphia, Penna. After teaching in the schools of Greene Township for several terms he began the study of medicine with Dr. George Smith of Greenvillage, and then attended lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating M. D. in 1868 from this school. Dr. Etter located at once at Oakville, Cumberland County, but after six months removed to Waukegan, Ill., where he followed the profession until 1877 when he returned to his home east of Scotland where he died from tuberculosis about ten days after his arrival. His wife was Mary Hubly of Shippensburg.
