JACOB FAHRNEY 1798-1848 Dr. Jacob Fahrney was born May 7, 1798, in Chambersburg, Pa., a son of Dr. Peter Fahrney and Eve Dernbaugh, his first wife. After the death of his mother in 1803 he was taken by his father to Washington County, Md., where he grew to manhood. He studied medicine with his father, Dr. Peter Fahrney. In December, 1822, he married Catherine Welty and a few months later in 1823 he located in Waynesboro, Pa., where he lived and practiced medicine for two years. In 1825 he purchased a home in Quincy, Pa., and removed to this village where he continued to reside and practice medicine until the time of his death, April 12, 1848. In 1827 his wife died and in 1828 he was married a second time to Elizabeth Holsinger. Dr. Jacob Fahrney was a member of the Church of the Brethren and was elected, in 1825, a minister and in 1841 ordained an elder in this denomination and held this office during the remainder of his life. He was a man of prominence in the community and had a large and lucrative practice in Quincy and that vicinity. Dr. Jacob Fahrney was the father of six sons, two of whom became physicians; viz: Dr. Jacob Fahrney and Dr. Peter Fahrney.
