D. Joseph Frantz was born in 1854 in Waynesboro, Pa., the son of Benjamin and Mary A. (Ryder) Frantz. He studied medicine with his father and was graduated M. D. in 1878 from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Frantz practiced medicine in Harrisburg, Pa., from graduation to 1881, when he located in Waynesboro, where he since has been in practice. Dr. Frantz was a member of the Dauphin County Medical Society transferring his membership to Franklin County Society in 1883 and was president of the Society in 1888, and resigned his membership in society in 1905. He is a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church and for some years has held the office of Elder. Dr. Frantz married first Gertrude Smith and second, June 7, 1908, Alice Immel Stouffer. In 1880, while in practice in Harrisburg Dr. Frantz was one of the founders, the first meeting being held in his office, of the Harrisburg Pathologic Society, afterwards changed and chartered as the Harrisburg Academy of Medicine.
