D. Dr. Greenewalt was born in 1859 in Fayetteville, Pa., a son of Henry C. and Martha (Crawford) Greenewalt. He received his education in the common schools and at Chambersburg Academy. He then began the study of medicine in the offices of Drs. Lane and Palmer in Chambersburg and after the usual course of lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, he was graduated M. D. in 1884 from this institution. After graduation he served as resident physician at the Presbyterian Hospital and at Blockley Hospital. Dr. Greenewalt was Medical Examiner and Surgeon for the Pennsylvania Railroad at Camden, N. J., 1886 to 1889. For one year, 1889 to 1890 he was in partnership with Dr. C. F. Palmer in Chambersburg and from this time until 1898 was in individual practice here. Dr. Greenewalt entered the U. S. Military Service in 1898 as Assistant Surgeon, serving at Chickamauga Park and at Santiago de Cuba until January 1, 1899, when he was appointed Assistant Surgeon Fifth U. S. V. I. with the rank of First Lieutenant. This regiment was mustered out in May 1899, and in July he was commissioned Assistant Surgeon 33rd U. S. V. I. This regiment was the first to land at Manilla, P. I., and took part in the important expeditions in pursuit of Aguinaldo and the rescue of Lieutenant Gilmore, U. S. N. and party. March 1901, he was commissioned Captain and Assistant Surgeon. October, 1901, he received the rank of Major U. S. V. He was twice mentioned for distinguished service on the firing line. After the war he resumed the practice of medicine in Chambersburg and has so continued. Dr. Greenewalt was for a time a member of the Medical Society and is a member of the Hospital Staff. He is a Republican and served as Coroner of the County, and is a Presbyterian by faith. He married in 1890 Mary M. Davidson of Newville, Pa.
