D. Washington Harbaugh was born at Midvale, this county, the son of George and Anna (Snyder) Harbaugh, and was a brother of the Rev. Dr. Henry Harbaugh, the noted theologian. Dr. Harbaugh studied medicine in Philadelphia and was graduated M. D. about 1845. He began the practice of medicine in Waynesboro in 1845 and after two years removed to Bedford. His health failing, he went from Bedford to Florida in which state he died July 31, 1852, from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. His wife, who before marriage was Miss Boteler, died shortly before her husband.
