HAYS 1814-1892 Dr. R. C. Hays was born in 1814 at Middlespring, Cumberland County and was the first physician to locate at Orrstown. He began the practice of medicine in this village prior to 1840 and remained here about fifteen years. After leaving Orrstown Dr. Hays practiced medicine for a number of years in Shippensburg and then retired. The last years of his life were spent in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Daniel S. Hunter in Chambersburg. His remains lie in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Dr. Hays married first, Julia Stoner of Antrim Township. His second wife, whom he married in 1842, was Christiana Snively, born 1819, died 1854, also of Antrim Township.
