DOROTHY HEVERLY 1763-1830 Mrs. Heverly practiced medicine in Campbellstown and that vicinity from 1800, probably earlier, until 1830, when she died. She was born in 1763 and was the wife of Henry Heverly, born 1746, died 1830. They were Germans of some wealth and built and owned some of the best brick houses in the village. They are buried side by side in the Lutheran Churchyard in St. Thomas, the above dates being found on their tombstones. Mrs. Heverly's medical skill was unquestioned in those days and tradition tells some amusing anecdotes regarding her. When called to visit the sick in the "First Families" of the neighborhood she would dress in black satin, putting on a bonnet of the same material trimmed with lace, mount her horse and ride away in state.
