KENNEDY, M. D. 1841-1893 Thomas M. Kennedy was born in Illinois in 1841, the son of James Kennedy who was born in Ireland and when quite young was brought to America, the family settling in Franklin County. Dr. Kennedy served as Hospital Steward for three years during the Civil War, and then read medicine with Dr. John Newcomer at Quincy, Pa. After the usual course he was graduated M. D. in 1866 from Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City. Dr. Kennedy located at once at New Franklin and after seven or eight years successful practice in the New Franklin neighborhood, he removed to Greencastle, where he resided and practiced medicine until his death in 1893. He was a member of the Medical Society in 1870 and was Vice President in 1872.
