JAMES S. MAURER, M. D.

  Dr. Maurer was born in Chambersburg.  He enlisted as Assistant Surgeon in the 
77th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, organized at Pittsburgh, October, 1861, 
for three years service.

  In May 1865, the following announcement appeared in the Valley Spirit 
newspaper of Chambersburg:

    "Dr. James S. Maurer has located in St. Thomas for the practice of medicine 
and will promptly answer all calls for his service."
