ANDREW N. McDOWELL, M.D.

Dr. McDowell was born in Chambersburg, Pa., the son of Dr. Andrew and Mary 
(McPherson) McDowell.  He studied medicine with his father and received his 
medical degree from a Philadelphia Medical College, and then began the practice 
of medicine with his father in Chambersburg.

He was a member of the Medical Society in 1825 and a short time later removed to 
Pittsburgh, Pa., where he became in time one of the most prominent physicians in 
Western Pennsylvania.  Dr. Andrew N. McDowell married, 1826, Jane Denny Porter.  
His death occurred in 1849 in Pittsburgh.  His widow survived him, dying in 1895 
in Pittsburgh.
