D. John McKee was born several miles south of Waynesboro, Pa., near the Antietam Junction. He was a son of John and Catherine McKee. John McKee the father was a school teacher for many years and both he and his wife were consistent members of the Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, and very strict in the observance of the Sabbath. The son John McKee was educated by his aunt, Miss Mary McKee, who resided in Waynesboro, Pa. John McKee read medicine with Dr. James Brotherton, Jr., and was graduated M. D. from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. He located at once in Funkstown now Mont Alto, where he continued in practice until his death at a comparatively early age, leaving a widow and two daughters aged about five and three years.
