GEORGE BROWN McKNIGHT Dr. McKnight was a native of Franklin County, the son of Rev. Dr. John McKnight, who for some years was the pastor of the Rocky Spring Congregation. Dr. McKnight served in the War of 1812-14 as a member of a company commanded by Captain (Dr.) Culbertson. At the close of the War he was appointed a surgeon in the Army. He resigned after several years service and located in Chambersburg where he practiced medicine until 1829, when he was appointed surgeon in the U.S. Navy and retired from private practice. Dr. McKnight was physician to the Almshouse in 1819 and 1820 and was a member of the First Medical Society in 1825. The following notice appeared in the newspapers of the time: DR. G. B. McKNIGHT "Offers his professional services to the inhabitants of Chambersburg and vicinity. He may be consulted at his room next door to Mr. John Shyrock's Bookstore." January 19, 1819
