D. S. M. Miller was born at Marion, this county, on January 26, 1866, a son of John Franklin and Martha (Metz) Miller. He attended the common schools and for several terms the Cumberland Valley State Normal School at Shippensburg. He taught for three years in the public schools at Marion and then studied Pharmacy, graduating Ph. G. in 1890 from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. In January, 1891, Dr. Miller was appointed Pharmacist in the State Hospital for Insane at Norristown, serving until 1902 when he was graduated M. D. from Jefferson Medical College and became at once Assistant Physician in the Hospital, and since has held successively the positions of Chief Resident Physician, Assistant Superintendent, Acting Superintendent, and now is Superintendent of this institution, the largest of the kind in the State. In January, 1926, the Board of Directors of the Hospital gave Dr. Miller a public testimonial for his thirty-five years continuous service in the work of the Hospital. Dr. Miller specializes in mental diseases and is a member of various Medical Societies and Associations. He is a member of the Reformed Church and of the Masonic Fraternity and is a Republican in politics. He married in 1908, Katheryn Law Brooks.
