D. John Roy Minehart was born in Lurgan Township November 1, 1878. He is the son of the late Jacob Sherman Minehart and Katherine Wise Minehart. He received his early education in the rural schools of Franklin County and later attended the Chambersburg Academy. In 1898 he entered the Pharmacy Department of the Medico-Chirurgical College receiving his Ph. G. degree in 1900. That same year he entered the Medical Department of that institution and in 1903 received his degree of Doctor of Medicine. In 1904 Dr. Minehart was appointed surgeon in the Imperial Ottoman Navy and served with the crew that delivered the cruiser Medjidia to the Turkish government. He was Associate Professor of Materia Medica from 1905 to 1907 at Medico Chirurgical College. In 1907 he was appointed dean of the Pharmacy Department of Temple University and Professor of Pharmacognosy. He served in the City Council of Philadelphia under the Blankenburg administration. He was medical examiner on the Draft Board during the World War, and at present is United States examiner for the Civil Service Board at Philadelphia. In 1906 Dr. Minehart married Katharine Violet Cosgrove of New York City. They have three children, Thomas Z. Minehart, 2nd, John Roy, Jr., and Katherine Violet Minehart. He is an elder in the Wakefield Presbyterian Church of Germantown, Philadelphia.
