He was a graduate of the Chambersburg Academy, class of 1888, and for a time attended Lafayette College, Easton, Pa. He studied medicine with Dr. John C. Greenawalt in Chambersburg, Pa., and received his degree M.D. in 1892 from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Orr practiced medicine in partnership with Dr. Greenawalt from 1892 to 1898, when he entered the Medical Service of U.S. Army. He was stationed first at Camp Alger, then at Augusta, Ga., Fort Strong, Boston, Mass., and Camp Meade. Dr. Orr was ordered to the Phillipine Islands with the 47th U.S. Vol. Infantry in November, 1899, with the rank of Captain and Assistant Surgeon. He also served with the 23rd U.S. Infantry. He died in the service at Tuscaran Island of Mindinao, Phillipine Islands on September 12, 1901. He was a member of the Medical Society, of the Masonic Fraternity, a Democrat in politics and by faith a Presbyterian. He body was brought to Chambersburg for interment.
