D. 1826-1869 E. D. Rankin was born on January 16, 1826, in Antrim Township, a son of Andrew B. and Margaret (Ritchey) Rankin. He was Recording Secretary of the Medical Society in 1854 and a signer of the Call in 1868. He practiced medicine in Greencastle for years until his death on April 27, 1869. Dr. Rankin is credited with being the first physician in Greencastle to use the hypodermic needle. He was a graduate M. D. in 1851 from Jefferson Medical College and read medicine with Dr. Charles Michaels in Greencastle. In 1854 he married Adeline Reid. He was a Republican and a United Presbyterian.
