H. Senseny was born in 1811 in Chambersburg, the son of Dr. Jeremiah and Catherine (Huber) Senseny. He received his education at the Chambersburg Academy, studied medicine with his father and attended Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa., taking his degree M.D. from this institution in 1835. This same year Dr. Senseny began the practice of medicine in Chambersburg and continued in the work in this town until the time of his death in July, 1879. He inherited an extensive business by which his splendid abilities he increased and retained, and he probably had a larger and more varied experience than any physician who ever practiced in this neighborhood. For forty-four years he labored almost without relaxation, practicing all the branches of his profession, adding luster to a family name that for one hundred years was renowned in the Medical Annals of Franklin County. Dr. Senseny was a Censor in 1854 when the Medical Society was reorganized. He was a Charter Member in 1869 and the first President. He was physician to the Almshouse in 1836 and 1837 and again in 1854, 1856 and 1857. He married in 1838 Miss Jane R. Davis, daughter of William Davis, Esq., whose parents and grandparents were settled in Franklin County in the vicinity of Rocky Spring, and were Scotch Irish Presbyterians. Dr. A. H. Senseny is buried in the Falling Spring Cemetery. Three sons of Dr. Senseny entered the medical profession.
