JOHN SLOAN 1760 – 1831 Dr. Sloan was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1760, and was a licentiate of the Dublin College of Surgeons. He arrived in Philadelphia in the beginning of the year 1799 and practiced the profession in that city until November, 1803, when he removed to Chambersburg. Dr. Sloan was physician to the Almshouse 1809- 1814 and was Treasurer of the County 1824 and 1825. At the time of his death he was owner and publisher of the Franklin Republican, a paper that later was merged with the Franklin Repository. Dr. Sloan was a member of the Medical Society and died in 1831 in Chambersburg.
