D. 1839-1913 Isaac Newton Snively was born in 1839 near Jackson Hall in Guilford Township, this county, the son of John and Catherine (Keefer) Snively. He received his education in the common schools, at Fayetteville Academy and the private Classical School of Thomas J. Harris in Chambersburg. He taught in the rural school for a time and then took a course in Duff's Commercial College, Pittsburgh, Pa., graduating in 1857. In 1858 while teaching school south of Waynesboro, he began the study of medicine with Dr. Benjamin Frantz in Waynesboro in the intervals of school duties. In 1859 he became a student of Dr. J. C. Richards in Chambersburg and then attended Jefferson Medical College, graduating M. D., 1862, from this institution. He at once began the practice of medicine in Chambersburg. In 1863 he was commissioned by Governor Curtin as Assistant Surgeon and assigned to duty at Camp Curtin. Later he became Acting Surgeon of the 20th Pennsylvania Regiment. After being mustered out of service he returned to Chambersburg and became a partner with Dr. J. C. Richards and they had charge of the Town Hall Hospital. Later Dr. Snively was on duty in the U. S. A. General Hospital at Beverly, N. J., where he continued until near the close of the war, when he resigned and located in Waynesboro as the successor of Dr. James Brotherton, Jr., who had recently died. Later for a time he was a partner with Dr. Benjamin Frantz. Dr. Snively was a very energetic and successful practitioner and enjoyed one of the largest practices in the county. He was a charter member of the Medical Society in 1869 and always took an active interest in society matters. He also was a member of the Waynesboro Medical organizations. Dr. Snively was President of the Medical Society in 1873. He was a member of the G. A. R. and always active and much interested in the affairs of this organization. Dr. Snively married in 1863, Alice B. Barr of Waynesboro and second, married in 1904, Mrs. O. W. Good, a cousin of his first wife.
