STRICKLER, A. M., M. D. 1840-1911 A. H. Strickler was born in Antrim Township, this county, January 23, 1840, the son of Joseph and Mary (Snively) Strickler and grandson of Henry and Anna (Rhodes) Strickler. He attended the common schools and then was a student at the College of New Jersey (Princeton), receiving his A. B. in 1863 and later an A. M. from this institution. After this he began the study of medicine with Dr. William Grubb in Greencastle and was graduated M. D. in 1866 from the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York City. He began at once the practice of medicine in Mercersburg, remaining there until 1871 when he removed to Waynesboro and continued in the active and successful practice of medicine in this town until the time of his death January 30, 1911. During the Civil War, while an undergraduate, he served as Assistant Surgeon in Lincoln Hospital, Washington, D. C. Dr. Strickler was a leading spirit in the reorganization of the Medical Society in 1869. He was a charter member and was President of the Society in 1879. He was prominently identified with the civic and business interests of Waynesboro, Pa. He was one of the organizers of the Frick Company and was President of the Landis Tool Company from its organization to the time of his death. He helped organize the Green Hill Cemetery Association and at various times was Burgess, town councilman and school director. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature for one term, 1893-94. He married in 1870, Clara Anna Besore of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
