Alexander Thomson, L.L.D., who was born in Franklin County in 1788, and was one time Judge of the Sixteenth Judicial District, and one of the most noted jurists of this Commonwealth. Judge Thomson was the son of Archibald Thomson and a grandson of Alexander Thomson, who emigrated from Scotland with his wife and twelve children and settled about 1771 in the vicinity of Scotland, Pa., and gave to this village its name. Dr. Alexander Thomson, the subject of this sketch, received a liberal education, studied law with his father and was admitted 1844 to the Franklin County Bar. He then turned his attention to medicine and after graduation in medicine he located at Mount Savage, Md., and for many years was an honored and successful practitioner of medicine at that place. During the Civil War Dr. Thomson held prominent positions in the Medical Department of the Army, and always discharged his duties with characteristic fidelity.
