JOHN M. VAN TRIES 1810-1883 Dr. Van Tries was born at Hollidaysburg, Huntingdon County, the son of Abraham Van Tries, a merchant in that town. The date of his birth was February 19, 1810. Dr. Van Tries studied medicine with Dr. James P. Scott, Mercersburg, Pa., and then located at St. Thomas about 1843, where he continued in active practice until the time of his death in 1883. Dr. Van Tries enjoyed a very large practice extending over a wide scope of territory. He signed the Call for reorganization of the Society in 1868 and later (1875) became a member of the Society. Dr. Van Tries married Harriet Madden of St. Thomas Township. He was succeeded at St. Thomas by Dr. R. W. Ramsey.
