D. 1794-1862 Dr. Walker's ancestors were of English extraction and were among the first settlers in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Dr. Walker read medicine with Dr. McClellan or Dr. Boggs in Greencastle and was a graduate of a Philadelphia Medical School. Dr. Walker located in Waynesboro about 1822 and was in continuous and active practice here until the time of his death in 1862. He was a man of ability and interests and was highly respected. The Captain John E. Walker, Post No. 287, G. A. R., of Waynesboro, was named for a son of Dr. Thomas and Harriet Walker. Captain John E. Walker, born in Waynesboro, March 11, 1839, and killed before Atlanta, Ga., August 5, 1864, shot through the temple. His body was never recovered and rests with the unknown, supposedly in some National Cemetery.
