Thompson, vol 17, pp 531ff. Transcribed by Charlee Wilson. At the Old Rocky Spring Church, Letterkenny Tp, Franklin Co, Pa Aug 12, 1926 3:33 PM I went up again at 2 o'clock this afternoon to Chas B. Archibald's & he drove me out to Rocky Spring Church, his wife & little daughter Betty going along as they had never been there. The Church was organized in 1733 & the present substantial brick edifice was built in 1794 as those figures are built in the wall in the gable above the entrance door, which faces the cemetery, which, while apparently back of the church is in front of present Main entrance. ... Culbertson, big granite monument in the rough with bronze plaques on front & back with 5 names mentioning 12 battles on front & a very lengthy record on reverse. 294. Sacred to the memory of James Finley Esq & Jane, his wife this stone is dedicated (a flat slab). James died Sept 27, 182 in 73d yr. Jane died July 21, 1814 in 69th yr. May they both rest in peace. He was a Revolutionary Soldier. On another flat slab to the left is: Mrs Mary Culbertson wife of Joseph Culbertson & daughter of James Finley Esq born Jany 15, 1781 & died Apr 2, 1817. This is in a rail enclosed lot to the left of & right beside the Culbertson monument in the lower left hand corner of the cemetery, the lot being abt 12 x 16 feet. In the corner of the enclosure next to the Culbertson is a thrifty fruitful shell bark hickory tree.
