The extraction was done by Pat Fitzgerald, a member of the Ken Baxter Senior Center, Marysville WA. The Book is part of a yearbook collection located at 3rd St Book Exchange 1615 3rd St Marysville WA http://www.thirdstbooks.com/ A little history of the Chambersburg High School. The location of the Chambersburg High School Building has been the site of local education since 1798. At that time the Chambersburg Academy was established, the land having been donated by Captain Benjamin Chambers. The first building was a brick structure, probably the first brick school house in Franklin County. The Chambersburg High School had its beginning in 1856. There was a separate school for girls and for boys. In 1893, the two schools were united. The first Principal of the united school was Professor Hockenberry. FACULTY U.L. GORDY SUPERINTENDENT J.F. With these we are sure she’ll make good as a missionary. HARRIET ELIZABETH BRECHBILL "Harriet" Commercial Commerical Club 4; Hall Squad 2,4. HELEN ELIZABETH ENGLERTH "Helen" Classical Dramatic Club 4; Regular Choir 3,4; Operetta 4. And here we have the pretty maiden, who just couldn’t remember those history dates; she considered Virgil, Mephistophales himself. So she toiled, and she fretted, and she wailed, and she moaned. But Bravo ! She’s through. JOHN FRANKLIN ETTER "Johnny" Scientific Glee Club 1; Hall Squad 4. Nothing can excite John, not even a French test. DOROTHY JANE FREY "Dot" Commercial Spanish Club 4; Commercial Club 4; Book Club 4; Parrot Staff, Literary Department 4. Vain? Yes, pleasingly so. FUNK "Funkey" Commercial Hi-Y Club 2,4; Attendance Squad 2; School Play 3. Does this lad dance? Oh boy! Ask the teachers, they may know! But if you have ever seen him at a C. H. S. party you won’t have to ask. HAROLD SAMUEL GIBBONS "Gibbie" Scientific :Gibbie’s cry is, "Any clothes today?" He may not like chemistry, but that is all right; you don’t have to know formulas to be a big business man. ELIZABETH MAE GILBERT "Betty" Classical Book Club 4; Dramatic Club 4; Parrot Staff 4; Senior Play. Books are here, books are there, and wherever they are, you’ll find "Betty". ‘31 can count on sending a real authoress into the world. Sunshine all the way she brings on her trip in from Guilford Springs. BARBARA LOUISE HARTZOR "Babs" Classical French Club 4; Glee Club 3,4; Parrot Staff 3,4. VINCENT HAWBECKER "Pard" Scientific French Club 4; Hi-Y Club 3,4; Dramatic Club 3,4; Echo Staff, Business Manager; Senior Play, Stage Manager; School Play 3. AGNES CECILIA HAYDEN "Ag" Classical Vice-President of Lancaster Catholic High 3. Agnes has been here for one year only, but all have learned to like her. She brought with her a ready smile which has endeared her to C.H.S. TERESA C. HAYDEN "Tess" Classical Perhaps not many members of ‘31 know that Agnes has a twin sister. Teresa has proved to be a loyal and true classmate. DONALD B. HENDERSON "Skinny" Commercial Book Club 3,4; Dramatic Club 3; Debating Club 3,4; Commercial Club 4; Spanish Club 3,4; Senior Play; Echo Staff, Associate Editor. Chatter, chatter all the way, ten minutes’ work, one hours’ play, too much worry doesn’t pay. Thus we describe "Skinny". GEORGE THOMAS HENDERSON "Henny" Commercial George is one of those lucky few who can mix business and pleasure successfully. He’s always ready for a good time, yet in his class work he will never shirk. FLORENCE A. HENRY "Tony" Classical French Club 4; Glee Club 4; Dramatic Club 4; Hall Squad 4; Parrot Staff 3,4; Operetta 4. What have we here? A poetess! And a jolly little one she is, always full of pep. ADELEINE HOLLINGER "Holly" Classical Glee Club 2,3,4; Dramatic Club 2,3; Parrot Staff 3,4. Who says that there isn’t a "Sweet Adaleine" in the class of ‘31. She is very pleasant and not at all hard to look at. "Sweet Adaleine, won’t you be mine?" EVELYN RUTH HORN "Evie" Classical French Club 4; Dramatic Club 4; Office Squad 4. We don’t hear much from Evelyn around C.H.S; she prefers her home, where she can prepare her lessons. Her motto is "Begone Dull Care." N’est-ce pas, Evelyn? MARK EUGENE HOSTETTER "Mark" Scientific Hi-Y Club 4. Little does he say, but he is a firm booster of all activities of the class and school. Mark’s ready smile has won him many friends in C.H.S. We predict a great future for "Dick" as an animal trainer. You ask us why? Because he has so successfully made our "Parrot" talk. This isn’t his only accomplishment though, he is also one of our star actors. PEARL MILDRED HUNSECKER "Pearl" Scientific Glee Club 4; Dramatic Club 4. One of the senior boys said that girls don’t talk much. We wonder if he still thinks so; if he judges by Pearl, he does. Well-great thoughts are with one who is silent. THEODORE C. But we have a big job on hand if we want to keep her. Greenburg is calling! We wonder who! GARNET ALEXANDER JONES "Casey" Commercial Spanish Club 3; Commercial Club 4. This "Casey" doesn’t go to the bat with a determined look on his face, but he does tackle lessons that way-- and he usually plays a winning game, too. GLADYS MARGUERITE JONES "Glady" Classical Dramatic Club 2,3. Gentlemen, change your minds and choose a brunette! Surely you would do it for this pair of eyes. Gladys never exerts herself over her lessons, but what’s the use? MAUDE ELIZABETH KEGERREIS "Keggie" Commercial Glee Club 1,3; Commercial Club 4; Spanish Club 4. Maude isn’t one of the people who promises to go to the movies with you and then decides at the last minute to stay at home. They say a woman has the right to change her mind, but we prefer a person like Maude, who doesn’t exercise this privilege. VIOLA ELIZABETH KIMPLE "Vi" Classical Dramatic Club 3. Viola is one of the few girls whose doubts and fears concerning lessons are evident in history and Latin classes. We are all accquainted with her giggle, which will be greatly missed in C.H.S. KATHERINE HELEN KING "Kitty" Classical French Club 4, President 4; Office Squad 4; Echo Staff, Associate Editor; Senior Play; School Play 3. She’s never late! CLINTON MALVERN MILLER "Miller" Classical French Club 4; Glee Club 3,4; Regular Choir 3; Operetta 4. If Malvern dosn’t get over some of his bashfulness we’re afraid he is going to take second place in his own household. Of course, you can never tell. WILLIAM S. MILLER "Bill" Commercial Another lad from Scotland. William is very quiet and seems to move in a path of his own. It takes a while to know him well, but once you succeed you have a true friend.
